The University of South Florida has an online MPH with a concentration in Nutrition and Dietetics. USF also has an ACEND accredited dietetic internship that can be completed concurrently. The program is in the College of Public Health. The MPH-NUD examines medical nutrition therapy, management and leadership and community aspects. Example courses include Methods of Nutritional Assessment, Public Health Nutrition and Nutrition in Health and Disease. Students can complete the program wherever they live at their own pace. The DI requires being in person and features an international experience in the last semester.

Nova Southeastern University offers a fully online and hybrid M.S. in Nutrition. The degree is 30 credits and can be completed in one year. Florida State University offers both a BS and MS in Nutrition and Food Science. Students can choose to specialize in either Nutrition or Food Science. There are thesis and coursework-only tracks. The program is in the Department of Nutrition and Integrative Physiology, which also offers a Dietetic Internship. The DI can be completed with the MS in Nutrition concurrently. University of Florida also offers a MS-DI. Applicants must have completed or be in the process of completing an accredited DPD program. The MS-DI is ACEND accredited. What to know about becoming a Registered Dietitian in in Florida
To become an RDN in Florida, many steps are required. The first step is to earn a degree in the area of nutrition and obtain a verification statement from ACEND. Currently, either a bachelor’s or master’s degree from an ACEND-accredited school will suffice. All ACEND- accredited programs include the required DPD coursework. However, beginning January 1, 2024 a masters degree will be the minimum requirement to sit for the CDR exam.
Once the ACEND program is complete, graduates are eligible to apply for the dietetic internship. Both individuals who have earned a master’s degree or bachelor’s degree must complete the DI to become an RDN. ACEND also offers coordinate programs which combines the DPD coursework and internship.
After completing the degree and internship, there is an exam administered by the CDR. Those who pass the exam will earn the official title of Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.
There are additional requirements to obtain licensure in Florida. Applicants must pass a background check and send in forms of endorsement. Temporary permits are given to applicants while waiting for their review. Applicants must send a $80 application, $80 license and a $5 unlicensed activity fee to the Dietetics and Nutrition Practice Council of Florida. To maintain RD credentials with the CDR, 75 continuing education credits are required every 5 years.
