There are 10 universities that offer a Bachelor's degree in Nutrition. These programs are a four-year track leading towards a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics Degree. After graduation, students can apply to an ACEND supervised practice program, also known as a Dietetic Internship. As of January 1, 2024, the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) now requires a Master's degree to become a RD.
Of the online ACEND accredited programs in New York, over 40 offer a Master's degree in Nutrition. A Recency of Education is needed for admission for 12 of these programs. Prior work experience is required for 5 of the programs. Only one program requests a DPD Verification Statement for admission. Both Fall and Spring admission are offered for the online programs.

Adelphi University- MS in Nutrition
Adelphi University has a 100 percent online MS in Nutrition program. Students must have a bachelor's degree with at least 2.75 GPA to apply. No GRE needed. This program offers optional field trips to enhance experiential learning. The online MS can be completed in three years or less. The program is also recorded. If students cannot attend scheduled class time, they can catch up at a later date.
Courses include Nutrition in the Life Cycle, Nutrition and Obesity, Nutrition and Diabetes and more. Nutrition Education and Communication is a unique course offered for those interested in public media. Caniscius College - M.S. Applied Nutrition

Applications are processed on a rolling basis and can be submitted online with no fee. To qualify for admission, all students need an undergraduate transcript with at least a 2.7 GPA. Students also must provide evidence of proficiency in college-level science classes or be a licensed RD.
The program degree has two concentrations. Students can choose between Obesity and Eating Disorders and Fitness and Sports Nutrition. Example courses include Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, Sociology of Nutrition and Exercise Physiology. A Masters Thesis is the final project required to graduate.
New York Institute of Technology - M.S. Clinical Nutrition
New York Institute of Technology offers a fully-online Masters in Clinical Nutrition program. Students can tailor their degree to specific interests. Areas include eating disorders, the obesity epidemic and independent research projects.
The degree program requires 36 credits. The program is split up by Nutrition Science Core, Clinical Core and Elective courses. Students devote 9-12 hours a week for each 3 credit course on average.

State University of New York Oneonta - M.S Nutrition and Dietetics Program
SUNY Oneonta has an ACEND accredited online Dietetics program. It is a 36 credit non thesis masters program that includes 1,180 supervised practice hours. The experiential learning portion can be completed in student's own local communities. Students must find their own RD preceptor to work under, and usually spend 32-40 hours a week with them practing entry level skills. Also, 12-15 hours a week are usually spent completing online assignments and interacting with faculty.
The curriculum is arranged in a specific manner to dedicate time to supervised experiential learning. When students are not out in the community, the online courses offered include Nutrition Focused Physical Assessment, Current Issues in Dietetics and Population Health.
Russell Sage College- Masters in Applied Nutrition
Russell Sage College offers an Online Master's in Applied Nutrition. Only a current resume, 1-2 page career goals essay, two letters of recommendation and official transcript are needed to apply. Students may attend this program as full or part time. The program takes thee to four terms for full-time students to complete.
There are five core courses of the program. This includes Epidemiology, Sports Nutrition, Weight Management, Pediatric Nutrition and Research Methods. There is a final thesis project at the end of the program.
There is also a combined Master's and Dietetic Internship program available for students. This program is not online but combines the 21 credits of the Masters of Science in Nutrition with 24 credits from the Dietetic Internship.
Stony Brook University- MS in Nutrition
Stony Brook University has an online Master of Science in Nutrition program. There are two concentrations available. Students can choose between Advanced Nutrition Therapy & Critical Care and Integrative Nutrition Therapy. Applicants must have a DPD verification statement or be an RDN for admission.
There are 36 credits of the online Masters in Nutrition program. All admitted students will work with a faculty advisor to develop an individualized course plan based on their needs. Cornell University offers both a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) and a Dietetic Internship (DI). These programs are separate but both lead students towards become a Registered Dietitian. The Bachelors of Science DPD falls under the Division of Nutritional Sciences at Cornell. This division is jointly administered by the College of Human Ecology and College of Agriculture and life Sciences. Students at Cornell must apply to the DPD by their junior year. Applicants must have a resume, transcript and filled out DPD application.
Once admitted to the to DPD courses, students will take both Professional and Science courses. The Professional Courses consist of Food Service Management, Nutrition and the Lifecycle, Nutrition and Disease and more. While the Science courses consists of Inorganic and Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology and more.
Applicants can apply to Cornell’s Dietetic Internship through DICAS, the centralized application service. Applicants did not have to complete their DPD at Cornell to be considered.
New York University- BS in Didactic Program in Dietetics
New York University has an ACEND accredited BS in Didactic Program in Dietetics. The program offers both freshman and transfer applicants as well as current NYU students changing majors. To receive the DPD verification from NYU, students must take at least 29 credits at NYU. Required courses include Intro to Modern Chemistry, Diet Assessment and Planning, Community Nutrition, Research Methods and more.
Once the ACEND accredited DPD is completed, students are eligible for the Dietetic Internship. The NYU Dietetic Internship is 1200 full time supervised hours and is part of the Clinical Nutrition MS program. The NYU DI also meets the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetic requirements.
